“During her time in Trinidad, Marggie has cultivated a deep-rooted connection to the people and lands of southern Colorado and distinguished herself as a leader within the local arts and culture scene,” said Susan Fries, director of the Center for Colorado Women's History and deputy community museum officer. “Her dedication to community engagement, both as a representative of the local creative district and as local business owner, make her the perfect fit for Trinidad History Museum and we are so excited  to see how she will shape the future of this community centerpiece.”

Prior to joining History Colorado, Ferrendelli served as the executive director of the Creative District & Main Street boards, as well as the facilitator of The Commons @ Space to Create. Within her role as facilitator for Space to Create she was able to guide state-funded efforts to revitalize underutilized buildings within the Corazon de Trinidad District to meet community needs and established The Commons, which has become an important gathering space for people of Trinidad.

“The work we did with The Commons is very near and dear to my heart.” Ferrendelli said. “Trinidad has a long history of being a boom and bust town. Being able to create something like The Commons where we could bring community together to promote mutual growth and success connects deeply to my desire to contribute positively to the lives of those around me.”

Beyond serving as gathering space, Trinidad Space to Create contributes to the revitalization of the historic Main Street by providing incubator office and working spaces as well as a number of retail spaces for businesses, and 13 affordable live/work apartments for creatives.

“There is such a rich heritage from this area that extends beyond just Trinidad,” Ferrendelli said.  “We have such a deep blending of cultures that make this area unique and combine to create the incredible hidden gem that is Trinidad that we all want to see shine so people will come to visit.”

Through her position as director of the Trinidad History Museum, Ferrendelli hopes to continue to contribute to the vitality of the Corazon de Trinidad District and show how history can be a valuable tool in shaping the future of the city so dear to her.

“History honors the past while forming the future, it's not just about learning from our victories but also learning from our mistakes and finding the stories that have been lost so we can grow from them,” Ferrendelli said.
