Event Series
Poetry on the Porch
Poetry on the Porch is a summer series every Saturday in July from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Center for Colorado Women’s History.
Join us in our garden to experience the work of four women and gender diverse featured poets and share your own. Hosted by author, educator and poet, Marissa Forbes, this series includes an open mic for all poets, complimentary hand fans and water.
Come for the poetry and stay for the community. To support our local artists, this is a paid event. There is a discounted option, please select whichever is best for you.
Pre-registration for this event is encouraged. Your ticket will be scanned inside our carriage house upon arrival. Proceeds from this event support future educational programs and make it possible for us to provide opportunities for local artists like those featured. To support each individual poet, each Saturday has its own paid ticket. Please see the next posting on the website to purchase tickets for more than one weekend. We appreciate your participation!
Hosted by Marissa Forbes, this series will feature four incredible poets: Olivia Pearman-Editor in Chief of Screaming at America: An Anthology of Disobedience on July 5th. Maru-an art teacher and aspiring novelist on July 12th. Lauren "Robbie" Velasquez Robinson, whose debut poetry collection: Listening Party: House Music and Other Conversations, comes out summer 2025 on July 19th and Lyric Haworth is a queer teen poet, filmmaker, and storyteller on July 26th.
About the Poets
July 5th | Olivia Pearman
Olivia (she/her) is a Boulder-based poet who is passionate about the power of art and creativity for making good trouble and good change. She is also the Editor in Chief of Screaming at America: An Anthology of Disobedience and an instructor for the Summer 2025 Beyond Academia Free Skool. And she'd rather be in the mountains than writing this bio, but here we are.
July 12th | Maru
Maru (he/they) is an art teacher and poet/aspiring novelist who leans into writing on the catharsis of trauma healing, addiction recovery and decolonization during late stage capitalism. Maru is working on a novel fueled with feminine rage that sheds light on superheroes we’ve known and loved.
July 19th | Lauren "Robbie" Velasquez Robinson
Lauren "Robbie" Velasquez Robinson is a non-binary lesbian mixed Chicano poet. They are Denver poet and educator for the past 5 years. Their debut poetry collection: Listening Party: House Music and Other Conversations, comes out summer 2025, and their work has appeared in Twenty Bellows, Beyond the Veil Press and Lighthouse Writers. They run writing workshops around Denver or find them at open mics.
July 26th | Lyric Haworth
Lyric Haworth is a queer teen poet, filmmaker, and storyteller with a passion for raw emotion and vivid imagery. Featuring themes of love, transformation, trauma, and living in a world on fire, Lyric has been featured at the CCIFFY film festival, published in "Screaming at America: an Anthology of Disobedience," and performed in "Slay the Runway," and so much more.
