The First Baptist Church of Salida is significant in the area of Women's History for its association with local organizing efforts for the temperance and women's suffrage movements. The church is where the local chapter of the Women's Christian Temperance Union formed and held regular meetings in the 1880s, and where local suffrage activities were held as part of an ambitious statewide campaign to enable women's right to vote through a popular referendum in 1893. It is also significant in the area of Social History as the site of a wide array of social events for the greater Salida community.
