Denver Fire Station No.3
Denver County
Fire Station No.3 is a 1931 Spanish Bungalow style, one-story fire house continuously owned and operated by the Denver Fire Department. The Spanish Bungalow was a popular style during the 1920s and 1930s when the building was constructed. This building includes a terra cotta clay tile roof, a pitched roof in front, gabled parapets to represent low-pitched clay tiled roofs, and window pairings with brick arch details.
From 1931 to 1957, it was the only all-Black firehouse in the City and County of Denver. The fire station is significant in the area of Black Ethnic Heritage as the City and County of Denver's only all-Black employed fire station due to segregation policies in the fire department. It is further significant in the area of architecture as an excellent example of Spanish Bungalow Style building designed by Denver-based architect Charles Francis Pillsbury.
