Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center Volunteer Opportunities

Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center includes original adobe buildings and view excellent exhibits on how the fort was saved and preserved. And, don’t miss the Infantry and cavalry barracks exhibits, an exhibit on the Buffalo Soldiers and the historic dioramas. From the Fort, plan a visit to Pike's Stockade, where Zebulon Pike and his men camped in the early 1800s.

Teen Education Volunteer

The Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center is looking for teen volunteers to assist with our Hands-On History summer program. *Must be 13 or older by the orientation date to apply. 

Each Teen Volunteer must be able to commit to a minimum of 50 hours for the summer, starting the week of June 8 through July 24 (no camp the week of June 30 -  July 3rd). (Of course, we can work around family vacations and other obligations.) Teens will receive a stipend at the end of the program. Participants will also earn real-world experience, and volunteer hours for school-related community service credit.

Participants who are selected for the Teen Volunteer role will be required to attend an orientation during the first week of June prior to the start of our program.

Join our team as a volunteer to help with front desk support, cleaning exhibit spaces, yard work, painting, and maintenance.

Desired Skills - Able to greet guests, great customer service is a must, and communication skills.

 

 

Hands-On-History Volunteer

Warm and caring volunteers needed to support the Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center Hands-On History (HOH) programs. Our programs operate on Fridays during the fall and spring semesters, and 5 days a week during winter, spring and summer breaks. Our camps provide opportunities for young people ages 6 to 14 years old that bring history to life and connect to our larger world in engaging and exciting ways!  

  • Assist with daily activities including games, lessons and exhibit exploration.  
  • Support program staff in creating an emotionally and physically safe experience for participants.
  • Assist participants at snack and lunchtime (heating food, opening containers)
  • Bring your unique talents, genuine heart, endless enthusiasm, and best self. 

Desired Skills: 

  • Must be a minimum of 18 yrs old 
  • Available to work a minimum of one 2-hour shift per week
  • Experience working with school age children (preferred)
